?

In the film Run Lola run by Tom Tykwer makes Lola a memorable character by using effects of tracking movement, music, colour and high definition film.

In the film Run Lola Run, by Tom Tykwer, Lola is a memorable character because Lola is energetic, lively, driven and empowered to save her love Manni. For example when Lola was running to rob a bank, the director uses tracking movement technique. This effect allows the audience to feel the insanity of Lola running on her urgent rush to rob the bank. This is one technique Tom Tykwer uses to make Lola a memorable character.

The second feature the director uses to make Lola a memorable character is the use of music. Lola is an upbeat, aggressive can do attitude girl so her music is upbeat, fast and tense to match Lola’s personality. The music Tom Tykwer uses is techno music. For example when Lola is running on the streets to save Manni, the only sound you can hear is the sound of Lola’s footsteps and in the background you can hear the music of fast and upbeat music. This effect of music allows the audience to feel Lola’s tense heart beat, which sounds like ‘boom’, ‘boom’, ‘boom’ at intense speeds. This is another feature that makes Lola a memorable character.

The third feature used to make Lola a memorable character is the use of the colour on Lola. Lola has a passionate red hair colour that stands out in every scene, the colour red links to the idea of Lola’s and Manni’s exhilarating love story. For example when Lola was in bed with Manni the only colour you could see was red and as the red went away you could feel the heart fade away. The director uses this effect of colour to emphasize the idea of a love story. This gives a clear image to the audience that the film is about Lola’s and Manni’s passionate and trustworthy relationship. This making Lola a memorable character.

The last feature the director uses to make Lola a memorable character is the use of high definition film. High definition film gives a sharp contrasted, high resolution and bright effect to Lola. For example in the scene where Lola’s dad was talking to his mistress, the film was low definition giving a dull and grazing image but as soon as Lola came into the scene, the scene became high definition making the scene vibrant, colourful and full of life. This effect the director uses gives the audience the impression that Lola is the main character. The use of high definition on Lola allows the audience to understand why Lola is a memorable character.

By using the effects of tracking movement, music, colour and high definition film, Tom Tykwer makes Lola a memorable character in the film Run Lola Run
